It Is Official – Weekly Message

Dear Parishioners of OLOP:

As of March 2, 2023, on the Feast of Saint John Maron, Our Lady of Purgatory has officially closed on the new property, formerly Our Lady of Fatima, located at 4246 Acushnet Ave, New Bedford, MA. Today I received the keys to the property and the final papers are being filed as we speak.

I am very mindful that this news comes with bittersweet emotions and I want each of you to know that I do understand the mixed emotions you may have. Even though the vast majority of parishioners are very excited about this move, there will always be many special memories that 11 Franklin Street holds in your heart, that has been home to you for so many years. Our new location will also begin a new journey filled with new and wonderful memories as well, that I hope will help us embrace the past and look forward to the future.

We will continue to celebrate Liturgies on Franklin Street until the work at the new Church is completed. This is expected to take 2-3 months once the work is started. Quotes for construction to the Church will be sent to the Chancery in the near future and once a company has been chosen, we will begin the work.

It is my prayer and hope that all of us can embark on this journey of faith together and promote a new and euphoric unity in the spirit in which our founders built this foundation over 100 years ago. I know they are looking down on us today with pride knowing we will do everything possible to continue the beautiful legacy they have entrusted to us. I will continue to update you every step of the way.

May Almighty God lead us in this new journey with faith, hope, and love.

In Christ,
Fr. Vincent Farhat
