The Passing of Nan Farhat

It is with deep sympathy and sadness that we inform you of the passing of Nan Farhat, the sister of OLOP Pastor Fr. Vincent Farhat. We pray that our Lord, through the intercession of Our Lady of Purgatory and St. Joseph, will have mercy on Nan’s soul as she continues her journey home. We also pray that our Lord will bless Fr. Vince and his family during this time, and pray that they will find consolation in the love they share with each other, and in the loving memories they have of Nan.

2020 Christmas Pageant – Saturday 12/18/20 After the 4:30 PM Saturday Liturgy

Dear Parishioners of Our Lady of Purgatory:

With today’s snow storm, its beginning to look a little like Christmas. I hope everyone is doing well in their preparations for Christmas – both spiritually and secularly. While these challenging times are forcing us to alter our Christmas traditions a bit, we are all still doing our best to enjoy the traditions and celebrate the Birth of Our Lord and the warmth and love of our families and friends.

One Christmas tradition at OLOP that has been special over the years has been the annual Christmas Pageant. I just want to remind you that we’ll be presenting our annual Christmas Pageant this Saturday evening after the 4:30 PM Saturday Liturgy and Christmas Novena Prayers. This year’s Pageant will feature videos and photos from the past 20 years of Christmas Pageants. If you, or your children, or your grandchildren have participated in an OLOP Christmas Concert over the past 20 years, chances are we have a video or photo of you in this year’s Christmas Pageant. There’ll also be opportunities for Christmas Caroling and a special surprise at the end.

The Christmas Pageant will be shown at the Church for those who are attending in person (please remember to reserve a spot through the website), it will also be live streamed on Zoom & on Facebook live. The Zoom Login information is the same information for the 10:30 AM Sunday Zoom meeting. We’ll be opening the video and unmuting all Zoom Participants at the end of the Christmas Concert so that you can wish everyone a Merry Christmas. We’ll also be live streaming on Facebook Live.

So, please gather with your household members, and join us virtually for these special OLOP Christmas Traditions. I look forward seeing you all next week.

In Christ,

Fr. Vincent Farhat
Pastor
Our Lady of Purgatory Catholic Church

Passing of Estephane Diab

Dear Parishioners of Our Lady of Purgatory:

It is my sad duty to inform you that Estephane Diab, the father of Mrs. Amal Diab Barbour, passed away in Lebanon on December 7, 2020. Estephane was born on Jan 1, 1935 and resided most of his life in Lebanon and was self-employed as a Men’s Tailor. When he would visit the United States, he would attend Our Lady of Purgatory Church. He is survived by his wife Marie Abou Chalha, his daughters, Amal Diab Barbour and her husband Jacques Barbour, Nowal Diab Hamouch and her husband Ghassan Hamouch and their son, Elias Diab and his wife Hannan Haddad. Estephane has six grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

We extend out condolences to Amal and Jacques Barbour and his family and to all of Estephane’s family in Lebanon

May Almight God welcome Estephane into His kingdom and may his soul rest in peace.

In Christ,

Fr. Vincent Farhat
Pastor

2020 OLOP Giving Tree

Dear Parishioners of Our Lady of Purgatory:

As we approach Christmas, even during these challenging times, we all are trying to observe and enjoy our family and parish traditions. One our most rewarding Christmas Traditions here at OLOP is the annual Giving Tree, which is sponsored by the St. Joseph Sodality. This year’s Giving Tree program begins this weekend (December 12 & 13) and runs through Sunday, December 20, 2020. This year there are two options for those who would like to help those less fortunate during this Christmas season:

The two options are as follows:

Beginning this coming weekend (December 12 & 13) the Giving Tree, adorned with paper ornaments will be on the Altar. Each ornament contains a gift request. All you need to do is take a tag, purchase, wrap the gift, and tape the tag to the front of the gift box. All gifts must be delivered to OLOP no later than the 10:30 AM Liturgy on Sunday, December 20th. After Mass they will be gathered and then delivered to “New Day”, a program that provides services in the City of Brockton;

We are also gathering Gift Cards for Target or Walmart to be donated to Catholic Social Services in New Bedford. The gift cards can be in any denomination from $10.00 to $50.00. All gift cards should be delivered to OLOP no later than the 10:30 AM Liturgy on Sunday, December 20th. After Mass they will be gathered and they will be delivered to Catholic Social Services. You may donate one gift card or multiple gift cards, but we ask that they be from either Target or Walmart at the request of Catholic Social Services.

As the Prayer of St. Francis reminds us, “it is in giving that we receive.”

For further information about the 2020 OLOP Giving Tree Program, please contact Matt Thomas, Mae Dickinson, Jacque Barbour, or Annemarie Espindola. Thank you for your generosity.

In Christ,

Fr. Vincent Farhat
Pastor
Our Lady of Purgatory Catholic Church
